The World Health Organization Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, says that this pandemic will not be the last one, and the international community should intensify healthcare systems.
“Epidemics are a fact of life,’’ he said in his video address to mark the first International Day for Epidemic Preparedness.
He said the epidemic-caused outcomes harmed the healthcare system and economies.
“It is hard to believe that only a year ago, COVID-19 was still completely unknown to us. In the past 12 months, our world has been turned upside down,’’ Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says.
He says that many warnings were issued in the past years that the world was not ready for a pandemic, adding the world should learn a lesson and ensure more investments in healthcare development.
Under the UN General Assembly Dec.7 resolution, the world marks International Day for Epidemic Preparedness for the first time.
