World Tourism Day, established by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in 1979, is marked every year on September 27.
The celebration aims to draw the international community's attention to the field's importance and its significance for social, cultural, and economic purposes.
As the World Tourism Organization reports, the tourists' flow increased by 4% in 2019 compared to 2018, while in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic led to an unprecedented drop.
In January - June 2020, the tourists' flow decreased by 65%, and international tourism revenues decreased by 460 billion USD.
Statistical data say that every tenth person worldwide is a tourism field employee.
