EUMM salutes Zaza Gakheladze's release from custody

The EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) salutes the release of Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze in its statement, which says that from the very beginning, on 11 July 2020, when he was detained, the EUMM has contributed to his transportation to Georgian government-controlled territory.

''The Mission has called for the exchange of information via the hotline and use of the Ergneti format for the purposes of finding a pragmatic solution to this issue. Gakheladze's detention was actively discussed within the framework of the last meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Ergneti,'' the statement reads.

Occupiers released Georgian Zaza Gakheladze from illegal custody today.

On Jul 11, 2021, occupants wounded and abducted Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze in the vicinity of the Skhvilo Fortress after he allegedly disobeyed military men.

The so-called court of the occupied Tskhinvali region sentenced Zaza Gakhaladze to 12 years and six months behind bars.
