Abkhazian de-facto government to appeal the repeat elections decision

Abkhazian de-facto government will appeal the decision made by the so-called central election commission on the repeat election to be held on March 22.

The so-called president’s administration reports the information. Based on the information, the reason for cassation appeal is the unjust decision made by the court of appeal.

“The repeat elections deflect us from the stabilization of the general political situation. We declare our disagreement with the decision and plan to forward the appeal within the deadline terms,” – reads the statement.

The so-called repeat presidential elections in Abkhazia are scheduled for March 22. Tamaz Gogia, the chairman of the so-called central election commission, informed journalists that the members of the election commission decided on repeat elections unanimously.

On January 10, the so-called Supreme Court ruled that a repeat election would be held.

Protests were staged in Sokhumi on January 9, with activists storming the parliament and demanding resignation of de facto President of Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia, Raul Khajimba. However, Mr. Khajimba said that he was not going to step down.

The document the drafters of which called upon Raul Khajimba to resign was approved yesterday, with 19 "deputies" having voted for it and four voted against. One "deputy" refrained from voting.

The situation is Sokhumi escalated a few hours ago, with the opposition forces storming the de-facto President's Administration. The puppet government defined this move as a coup.

The opposition maintains that Raul Khajimba failed to receive a majority of electoral votes at the presidential elections. However, the Central Election Committee declared him a winning candidate.

In the first round of the so-called elections, Raul Khajimba received 47.39% of electoral votes, Alkhan Kvitsinia 46.17%, while in the second round, he emerged a winner with 66.55% of votes.
