Georgia's number one tennis player is involved in a new scandal. Georgian businessman Irakli Kacharava is accusing Nikoloz Basilashvili of extorting money and violating the terms of the contract.
According to him, he invested a lot of money in Basilashvili's career in order to get a profit percentage. Basilashvili had to pay him part of the income from the prize money generated at the tournaments, but according to Kacharava, the champion did not fulfill his promise.
According to the businessman's lawyers, if Basilashvili was among the 50 best tennis players in the world, he was to receive 30% of the prize money from the tournaments won, as well as a share of Basilashvili's advertising activities.
Lawyers of the businessman say that Kacharava has been financing Basilashvili since 2015. According to them, the tennis player has been violating the terms of the contract since 2017. Basilashvili refused to negotiate, after which Kacharava appealed to the court.
