Convalescent plasma of former coronavirus patients may serve as the tool protecting people against imminent death, according to the head of Tbilisi's infectious diseases, Aids, and immunology research center.
In Tsertsvadze's words, along with conventional therapy, the center employs different innovative methods and approaches to treat the COVID-infected.
"Convalescent plasma is effective at the initial stage of the disease (for the first ten days) when the virus actively replicates (multiplies) in the patient's system. The effectiveness of the plasma is dependent on the concentration of antibodies.
The mentioned method for treating hospitalized COVID-19 patients has an Emergency Use Authorization by the US FDA ( issued on 23 August 2020)," Tsertsvadze declared.
