The European Union has allocated 106.7 million euros for the modernization of the Georgian highway.

The EU Bank will finance the construction of two sections of the East-West Expressway, which will extend to the borders of Azerbaijan and Armenia. As part of the investment, road safety will increase over a 388-kilometer section. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has already invested around € 2 billion to support key sectors of the Georgian economy and the measures needed to join the European Union.
