Thirty-two years have passed since the tragic developments in the center of Tbilisi on April 9, 1989, when units of the Soviet army launched a brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters outside the parliament of Georgia on Rustaveli Avenue.  

That ominous night, 21 rally participants died, hundreds were injured and poisoned by gas.

Two years elapsed after that bloody tragedy, and the Supreme Council announced the restoration of Georgia's independence. April 9, 1991, marked the historic day. 

April 9 deceased heroes sacrificing their lives for their country's independence are as follows:
