The Interagency Coordination Council, headed by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, discussed Georgia's epidemiological situation and world trends.

The meeting participants noted that in Tbilisi, Batumi, and Kutaisi, where the largest number of coronavirus infection cases is observed, citizens must wear masks also in open spaces. Especially in cases where it is impossible to maintain social distance.

As epidemiologists noted, if 90% of the country's citizens wear masks everywhere, the spread of infection will drop by 70%.

Besides, the meeting participants noted that from now on, antigen-based rapid tests would also be used to detect coronavirus infection, along with PCR tests in the European Union. The EU countries and Georgia have already made a corresponding change in the strategy to combat coronavirus. WHO already recognizes these rapid tests.

They said that asymptomatic patients or persons with mild symptoms of COVID-19 in Georgia, as elsewhere in the world, will continue treatment at home or in covid hotels under a family doctor's supervision. Only severe patients will receive a cure in hospitals.

Council members also discussed resources in terms of bed capacity and medical staff.

The officials remarked that there are currently sufficient resources in the country.

However, they are not limitless. Therefore, it is essential to strictly follow all the recommendations of the Interagency Council and epidemiologists.
