''This was extremely hard to watch,'' Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri said regarding the transportation of late Georgian cameraman Lekso Lashkarava's body to the mortuary. He also expanded on the footage shown at the briefing, saying that it was not his intention to publicize the material as he knew Lashakarava's family members would have seen it.
To the question of why the body was transported for an autopsy when the deceased cameraman's mother was against it, the minister said this is the investigation procedure, which needs to be performed.
''The body was transported after four and a half hours in this particular case. It is true mother was against it, but we have to deal with similar obstacles. This is the investigation procedure which must be carried out under any circumstances: if the investigation authority says the procedure is to be completed, it is,'' Gomelauri stated.
