Justice Ministry of Georgia wants team of doctors to monitor Saakashvili's medical condition

The Justice Ministry of Georgia urges Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze to assign the task of subjecting Mikheil Saakashvili to a thorough examination to a multifunctional team of doctors.

The statement by the state agency says that the accused/convict Saakashvili's rights must be protected with the corresponding monitoring carried out for more transparency. ''We are submitting the request of subjecting the protection of the inmate's rights to permanent monitoring to Mikheil Sarjveladze, Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights and Civil Integration, Dimitri Khundadze, Chairman of the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee of the Parliament; we are also asking public defender Nino Lomjaria to cooperate,'' the statement reads.

Ex-president Saakashvili, who is now behind bars, declared a hunger strike 12 days ago.
