Nika Melia, the Tbilisi mayoral candidate of the United National Movement, voted in the elections. He said he voted for competition, diversity, and change. Melia said after the voting procedure that he was confident of the victory of the coalition government, thus ending the Soviet-style one-party rule.
"We are doing everything, ending once and for all, in my opinion, a very shameful one-party rule in the Soviet-style, to pave the way for coalition rule, which means governing the country by reconciling different opinions. If we want to be a worthy member of a large European family, we must do so, and governance that implies one-party, mediocre, gloomy governance cannot take us where our historical aspirations are. Therefore, I am sure that the coalition government will win, and the preliminary data will provide the basis for that," Nika Melia said.
