Georgia's Patriarch Ilia II has conducted the service in Sioni Cathedral, Tbilisi.
''Let Holy Mother bless and protect our country and families,'' reads the statement released by the Patriarchate of Georgia.
The Assumption of the Virgin Mary is one of the twelve great holidays.
It is preceded by a two-week fast, which starts on August 14.
