Georgian PM Giorgi Gakharia has met with the clinical care team and health minister Ekaterine Tikaradze to discuss the issue of improving clinical management of patients with COVID-19, challenges health professionals are facing now, and the tools to tackle them.

The Press Office says that at the meeting, the issue of reducing the pressure on hospitals was raised, with this possible by treating mild symptoms at home with the help of family doctors or at COVID hotels. The necessity of rational use of recourses was emphasized to avoid extra pressure on the healthcare system.

"At this stage, wearing face masks and keeping safe social distance remain a must.

At the meeting, they underscored that the government does not plan a nationwide lockdown, and only shutting down some cities will be enough.

Prime Minister also thanked health workers for their contribution to the process of managing coronavirus patients," the information by the Press Office reads.

Vice President Maia Tskitishvili, Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani, Head of Task Force operating at the Inter-Agency Coordination Council, Alexandre Khojevanishvili, were present at the meeting.

Tengiz Tsertsvadze, Director General of Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center, and Georgia Doctor in the US Zurab Guruli, also attended the meeting remotely.
