Georgia's capital Tbilisi has seen 471 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection, and it is the record rate for the city.

Georgian health official Marina Endeladze said that Tbilisi city and Adjara region see the highest number of the coronavirus cases.

"Tbilisi is leading with 471 new cases, followed by Adjara with 343,'' Endeladze stated.

Georgia has detected 1,192 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection, and the number of infected reached 17,477, the official government webpage stopcov.ge reports.

The number of recovered increased by 233 and totaled 8,060.

The novel coronavirus infection has claimed 136 lives in Georgia.

Georgia observed the first case of the novel coronavirus infection on February 26, 2020.

The World Health Organization declared the pandemic on March 11.

The pneumonia-causing infection outbreak began in China in December 2019.

On January 21, 2020, China confirmed the virus's human-to-human transmission and declared a quarantine in its two cities.
