The Georgian government has been intensely constructing and renovating a 51-km road, which connects the Zemo Imereti region with the Racha region.

The project cost is 105 million GEL.

It will be over gradually by 2012.

Following the project, the new connecting road will revive the regions of Lechkhumi and Racha and contribute considerably to the regional development.

This section of the road is also essential from a social-economic point of view.

The travel time from the town of Sachkhere to Oni (the distance equals 111 km) lasts for about two hours. The new highway will reduce the time to one hour.

Besides, traffic on the Sachkhere-Oni road will considerably improve the quality of service and safety.

The travel time from Tbilisi will decrease by 1.5 hours. It will take to travelers to cover the distance in 4.5 hrs instead of six hours.

The project will be carried out in seven stages.

Currently, intense work is underway in five towns.
