In January-May 2021, Azerbaijan exported 53,351 tons of polyethylene worth $61,427,780, respectively, down 6,507 tons or 10% and up $23.135 million or 60.4% from the previous year, Report.az informs, citing the State Customs Committee.
Polyethylene constituted 6.77% of non-oil export, 0.83% of total exports of the country.
Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced at the SOCAR Polymer plant in Azerbaijan. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant with a yearly production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Exports of polypropylene began on October 5 of the same year.
