Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan transports 500 million tons of oil

A total of 500 million tons of oil was transited through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline through the Sangachal terminal via Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.

On December 12, the pipeline transported 500 million tons of Caspian oil; the 4922nd Nordorse tanker was loaded and shipped to Trieste, Italy.

This milestone coincided with the 15th anniversary of the pipeline commissioning in 2006.

The BTC pipeline originates from the Sangachal terminal, located near Baku. The pipeline has a daily throughput of 1.2 million barrels of oil. The 1,768 km pipeline was commissioned in June 2006. BTC mainly transports BTC Azerbaijan–Chirag–Gunashli oil, Shah Deniz condensate as well as transit oil.

The BTC Co. shareholders are: bp (30.1%); AzBTC (25.00%); MOL (8.90%); Equinor (8.71%); TPAO (6.53%); Eni (5.00%); Total (5.00%), ITOCHU (3.40%); INPEX (2.50%), ExxonMobil (2.50%) and ONGC (BTC) Limited (2.36%).
