The novel coronavirus pandemic has reduced sales in the car market.

As the administration of the Rustavi car market, AUTOPAPA told report.ge, more than 3,000 cars are on sale, while their cost fell by 10% on average.
"Earlier, the parking tariff on the weekend was 25 GEL, and on the other days - 2 GEL. After the declaration of a state of emergency in Georgia, we set a one-GEL tariff per day. This true tariff was in force until June 1. Now the parking fee is 3 GEL. We will gradually increase the tariffs, and in September we will resume the old price," the market administration said.
The Georgian government deferred payment for customs clearance of cars for 38,000 citizens.
As importer Giorgi Gelazonia says, the demand for budget or economy cars remains at this stage, while the need for expensive cars with powerful engines has vanished.
"In general, the demand for cars decreased by 50-60%, but those who buy cars opt for fuel-efficient vehicles. In parallel with the reduction in demand, we reduced the cost of cars by 10-15% to attract buyers. Although there is no particular activity on the market yet," Gelazonia stated.
The novel coronavirus harmed the automotive market of the European Union as well.
As the Association of European Vehicle Manufacturers reports, in May, passenger car sales equaled only 581,161 in the EU, which is 52.3% less than the same period last year.
