Georgian economy sees 16.6% drop in April

Following the preliminary estimation, the GDP drop equaled 16.6% in April 2020, while the average rate of Jan – Apr 2020 is -3.6%.

Almost all sectors showed a decrease in April 2020. Only the mining industry showed an increase.

Construction, commerce, process industries, transport, hotels and restaurants, immovable property-related operations, arts, entertainment, and recreation sectors showed a sharp drop.

Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia Gogita Todradze says the exports decreased by 28%, while the import rate dropped by 39%.

The number of registered enterprises also dropped.

In Todradze's words, 307 enterprises were registered in April 2020, and the number lags behind the 2019 April rate by 93%.
