Under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), around 40,000 face shields by The Georgian CaucasPack Company will be handed over to health workers, local public officials and people at the frontlines in the fight against the new coronavirus both in Tbilisi and the regions, according to UNDP Georgia.

The organization informs that the first 16,000 shields will be distributed this week within the joint EU and UN programme, which aims at developing an efficient and competitive private sector in Georgia.

"I am glad that the EU has made its contribution to the production of 40,000 face shields, which will protect people at the frontlines in the war against the novel coronavirus. I am also glad that these face shields are made in Georgia by a local company having proved successful in facing the new challenges," European Union Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell declared.

Next week, the UNDP, with the support of the governments of Switzerland and Austria and in cooperation with local NGOs, will purchase 23,000 more face shields and hand them over to health workers and the socially underprivileged across 23 municipalities.

People will be provided with face shields in mountainous municipalities and the coronavirus-crippled south regions of Georgia.

Comfortable multiuse face shields by the CaucasPack are reportedly made from recycled plastic bottles.
