Natia Turnava: The Black Sea underwater transmission line is no less important than BTC

According to the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, in 2021, with the help of the World Bank, a technical-economic study for the construction of a Black Sea underwater transmission line and an Internet cable connecting Georgia and Romania will begin. According to Report.ge, Natia Turnava spoke about it during her speech in the Parliament in the format of "Minister Hour."

According to the Minister of Economy, the project envisages the arrangement of a high voltage DC power transmission cable under the Black Sea, which should connect the power systems of Georgia and Europe. According to Natia Turnava, this is potentially a project of no less importance than the Baku-Ceyhan project in its time.

"This is a completely new reality when our energy market will be not only legally but physically connected to the European market. If implemented, the 1,195-kilometer 1,000-megawatt cable will connect Romania to the eastern Balkan coast, enabling the South Caucasus and Europe to take advantage of expanded export opportunities and import electricity at hourly market prices," said the Minister of Economy.
