"Baku - Tbilisi - Kars Railway is aimed at increasing the transit potential of Georgia. Despite the fact that the railway is currently operating only in test mode - in the first eight months of 2021, the railway line recorded growth of 56.4%. We will be able to make better use of this line when it is fully operational," said the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia during her speech at the Trans-Caspian Ministerial in Istanbul, Turkey.
"The countries participating in the project have agreed that we will intensify our efforts to complete the project soon and, consequently, increase its capacity even more. We also agreed to simplify the procedures, which will facilitate the intensification and ease of movement of cargo on this highway," said Natia Turnava.
It was noted at the Ministerial that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is an integral part of the middle corridor, which facilitates transit freight traffic between Asia and Europe. In addition, it was stressed that all three countries participating in the project would do their best to reach the intended capacity of the railway line.
At the Ministerial, Natia Turnava, together with the heads of the Turkish and Azerbaijani delegations, signed a joint protocol on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
