In May 2020, a sharp decrease in the number of visitors to Georgia was detected from Russia (-97.8%), Azerbaijan (-96.9%) and Armenia (-92.1%), the review by the National Bank of Georgia reports.
The number of international visitors who visited Georgia in May 2020 dropped by 94.1% compared to the same period in 2019.
For the reporting month, 72.9% of the total number of international visitors were tourists, which decreased by 93.8% in annual terms.
Besides, in May, the number of one-day visits decreased.
Among the EU countries, the visitors from Germany (-99.6%), Poland (-99.9%), and France (-99.5%) have significantly decreased.
For the coronavirus pandemic, the planned cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in tourism was delayed.
In 2020 Georgia and Azerbaijan planned to develop a tourist package for third countries jointly.
