WTI's February futures were up 0.25% at $ 72.94 a barrel.
The rise in oil prices is partly due to the fact that commercial oil stocks in the United States fell more than expected by the week ending on December 17. Oil production fell by 100 thousand barrels per week - to 11.6 million barrels per day.
