During the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) construction, which will transport Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe, olive trees, temporarily removed from Italy and relocated, have been planted in their former places.

The information was announced on the official Twitter page of TAP.

TAP's specialized contractors replanted the healthy olive trees, which had been moved from the pipeline route and cared for in canopies in Masseria del Capitano, close to the PRT area. Thus, 828 olive trees are returning to their original locations, using a geo-reference tracking system. These olive trees were returned to their previous places after 3.5 years.

Italy managed to export gas through the TAP pipeline.

Northern Macedonia will also receive gas from TAP.

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will start commercial operations by July 2021.

Market testing of the pipeline will continue in July.

TAP transports natural gas from the Shah Deniz gas field in Europe to the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.

The 878 km long pipeline is connected to the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline at the Turkish-Greek border, passing through Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy.

The TAP may contribute to gas delivery to southeast Europe thanks to interconnectors set to be built in the future, with Bulgaria intended to meet its 33% of needs. The TAP interconnectors will allow Azerbaijan to supply European countries with gas and enjoy new opportunities.

Since 31 December 2020, a total of 10,9 mln cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas has been transported to Europe.

TAP’s shareholders include BP (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (19%), Enagás (16%) and Axpo (5%).
