Transparency International Georgia studied more than 300 property declarations of Mayors of all municipalities, council chairmen and their deputies in Georgia.
The monitoring revealed 128 different violations in the 78 declarations.
According to the law a person appointed within two months is obliged to fully fill in a declaration, reflecting the information on their own and family members assets and economic interests, shares owned in business organizations and hand the rights down to other person and within 10 days from his appointment leave the business organization head position.
Checking the property declarations of officials is one of the most important step in the fight against corruption.
