In January - June 2020, SOCAR Georgia Gas imported about 812 million cubic meters of natural gas to Georgia, Ibrahim Ahmadov, the SOCAR Executive Assistant, told the Azerbaijani media.

In his words, no new pipeline construction is on the agenda this year.

Ahmadov says that for the coronavirus pandemic, the gas supply project stopped in Georgia's highland regions.

"The parties to the negotiations on gas supplies to Georgia's mountainous regions are hotel developers in Georgia's mountainous, inaccessible areas. Due to the situation related to COVID 19, some projects in the tourism industry have temporarily suspended their investment activity. The negotiations are frozen and will resume with the emergence of interest from potential gas consumers," Ibrahim Ahmadov said.

In 2018, SOCAR firstly implemented the project in Georgia named 'Virtual Gas Pipeline.' The technology implies providing highland regions with gas, where it is almost impossible to install pipelines.

Notably, SOCAR Georgia Gas supplied Georgia with about 812 mln cubic meters of natural gas in January – June 2020.

SOCAR is the main gas and oil and oil product provider of Georgia.
