"SOCAR" will provide diesel to farmers at a discounted price this year as well. The agro-diesel support program for farmers will continue until the end of 2021. Farmers will buy diesel fuel at a significantly lower cost.
A memorandum signed between the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and SOCAR Georgia Petroleum provides for the supply of fuel to farmers on preferential conditions. Registration for the program will start on February 1, and discount cards will be activated from February 7.
The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, and the Director of SOCAR Georgia Petroleum, Levan Giorgadze. Mahir Mammedov, the General Director of SOCAR Energy Georgia, and Faig Guliyev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia, attended the signing.
"In 2020, a very successful agro-diesel program was implemented in cooperation with SOCAR Georgia Petroleum. One hundred twenty-five thousand farmers benefited from this program, and they received more than GEL 7 million discount. We will continue to work with SOCAR in 2021 as well. Farmers will be able to buy diesel on preferential terms. We also have an electronic platform. Farmers will no longer have to submit paper documents to petrol stations; they will use the electronic application," said Levan Davitashvili, the Minister of Environment and Agriculture.
Natural and legal persons owning agricultural land, at least 0.25 hectares, registered as property at the National Agency of Public Registry, will still be able to receive agro-diesel at a reduced price.
The program provides 150 liters of fuel discount cards for 1 hectare and no more than 15,000 liters for agricultural land that exceeds 100 hectares.
Fuel cards will be issued remotely through the website https://my.mepa.gov.ge; farmers will also be able to receive the cards at the Rural Development Agency's regional offices.
