The Turkish Stream (TurkStream) gas pipeline will open in January 2020, Energy and Natural Resources Minister of Turkey Fatih Donmez said.

The pipeline includes two pipes with 15,75 billion cubic meter capacity, respectively.

The first pipeline will supply Turkey with gas while the other will provide South and South-East Europe with natural gas.

To note, Gazprom loaded both pipes with natural gas in November 2019.

''We will launch TurkStream operation on January 8. After it starts functioning, we will be the only one at the international natural gas market,'' Donmez stated.

He also emphasized the importance of the pipeline, adding that another massive TANAP project is on its way.

''TurkStream and TANAP will ensure the domestic requirements of the country and will play an important role in terms of providing Europe safely with gas,'' he said.
