Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava has inspected rehabilitation works of the first hydroelectric power station in Borjomi and congratulated Georgia on its Independence Day.

"The historical Borjomi hydroelectric power plant is being rehabilitated in Borjomi park with the involvement of the Georgian Energy Development Fund and the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation. This is the first power plant in Georgia, which started operation in 1899," Turnava declared.

The Energy Development Fund was tasked to restore the hydroelectric power station by the Georgian government, according to the Press Office of the Ministry.  The renewed plant will perform two functions: it will serve as a museum and a modern hydroelectric power station.

Together with the Minister, State Representative in Samtskhe-Javakheti region, Besik Amiranashvili, head of the Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation Nikoloz Antidze and Director of the Georgian Energy Development Fund Giorgi Chikovani also inspected the hydroelectric power station rehabilitation site.
