Why is Georgia's anti-crisis budget criticized?

Politicians and specialists have strictly criticized the anti-crisis budget of Georgia.

The Financial-Budgetary Parliamentary Committee plans to examine the corrected budget project today, which has fewer supporters from the public as they think it is 'far from reality.'

Economist Ramaz Kipiani says that the government should revoke the draft due to its unfair nature, as it leaves many people and vulnerable social groups without support.

In his words, the budget project is not 'properly oriented' on supporting the people, leaving them in hardship.

''The government anti-crisis plan violates the human constitutional right, namely the fifth article saying that the government is obliged to care for strengthening social justice and solidarity principles,'' Kipiani says, adding that the government anti-crisis plan failed to respond to current problems. At the same time, it has invested 1,4 bln GEL in the program.

''In fact, the money is distributed unequally and unfairly,'' he adds.

Notably, the 2020 anti-crisis budget has been defined by 15 923 800 000 GEL.

For the coronavirus-caused crisis, the Georgian economy will drop by 4% in 2020.

The bill on making amendments to Georgia's law on the 2020 state budget was registered in the Parliament on June 9. The Parliament will allegedly approve it on June 24.
