As the latest research says, up to 88% of patients infected with COVID-19 lose their sense of smell and taste. Among them, 10% of those infected have these symptoms of coronavirus earlier than others.

In most patients (80%), sense of smell, and taste return over time.

In every fifth patient, the sense of smell resumes in week after the detection of symptoms.

Currently, there are no medications that can help coronavirus patients regain their sense of smell and taste, according to the doctor at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. According to scientists, the only way to restore these sensations is to train the sense of smell.

This workout is done with strong-flavored foods—for example, mint, garlic, coffee, and others. It is necessary to take 4-5 strong breaths daily for 10 seconds to activate the olfactory receptors.

Smell training should be done twice a day (morning and evening) until the patient's senses restore.

Patients who have already recovered from the coronavirus, but their sense of smell and taste have not recovered are advised to continue training for three months.
