According to the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Ekaterine Tikaradze, the GEL 200 social assistance package is not related to the upcoming elections.
In response to a question from Report.ge, Tikaradze said that after the coronavirus affected the population, the government is trying to help each family, and it is the reason behind the given decision.
"When we are dealing with a global pandemic, and we know how COVID-19 affected the citizens of any other country, of course, the citizens of Georgia are no exception. We started similar assistance several months ago. I do not agree that the amount of money that we decided to pay to children today is for electoral purposes. It is not true, on the contrary. We tried to make sure that every family could see the minimum benefit. That is why we think that we have made a fair decision and included children's package in this social assistance," Tikaradze said.
According to the decision of the government, GEL 200 assistance will be provided for each child up to 17 years old.
