7,646 restraining orders were reportedly issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2018, whereas in 2019, 7,762 in nine months. As Deputy Minister Nino Tsatiashvili declared at the Human Rights Committee session, this testifies to the fact that proposition of legislative amendments and stiffening sanctions against domestic violence was of critical significance; however, strengthening the tools for protection of victims and monitoring offenders still remains paramount. According to her, this does not mean that electronic surveillance will be carried out each time a restraining order is issued. "Electronic surveillance will be carried out only if a danger of repeated violence emerges," Tsatsiashvili said.
