Ministry of Education of Georgia issues statement on mandatory vaccination

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia says that the information according to which the draft bill on teachers' mandatory vaccination is being drawn up does not correspond to the truth, and vaccination remains voluntary.

According to the state agency, to create a safe environment in schools, they regularly appeal to teachers to receive their COVID vaccines.

"Additionally, the ministry keeps running the vaccination awareness campaign for teachers together with UNICEF. The ministry has always offered teachers help in the vaccination registration process. Vaccination cabinets were also opened for representatives of the education system; they could have been vaccinated without registration there. A total of 65% of teachers in public and private schools and school administration employees have already been vaccinated countrywide,'' the statement reads.

Tengiz Tsertsvadze, the Director-General of the Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center, said earlier that vaccination for teachers is becoming compulsory in Georgia, with the corresponding draft bill already drawn up.
