"The registration of mopeds will start soon, and owners will be required to have driving licenses," the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, said.
He said mopeds could not be controlled with video cameras and road accidents were frequent.
"We are working on this issue. I agree that it is a painful and challenging topic. The main problem is that we can not control the movement with video cameras; we can not fine them; therefore, they drive free and, unfortunately, there are frequent road accidents. Mopeds will be registered soon, and owning a driver's license will be obligatory.
Moped deaths are lower in numbers. There are more frequent cases on powerful motorcycles that need a Category A driving license. As I remember, the bill was submitted to the parliament in two hearings, and we will register it soon," Gomelauri said.
