NCDC Head calls on people to restrain from attending Easter liturgy

Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, calls on people not to gather in churches on the upcoming Easter feast that is on April 19.

He says the parish would better pray at home and refrain from attending a liturgy.

''We have a state of emergency in Georgia. We are a legal state, and the law bans gatherings, as social distancing is the strongest weapon to combat the disease,'' he said, adding that the health is the fundamental right in the human rights.

"I cannot recommend and say that people should act against the law. The law tells us that it is the same for believers and atheists. We must not gather,'' he said.

Gamkrelidze advises people to stay at home and watch the holy service on TV.
