Tamar Gabunia: I want to express my condolences to the family, this is a great loss

The Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Gabunia, responded to the fact of the death of a 4-month-old infected infant in Tsitsishvili Children's Clinic.

Tamar Gabunia expressed her condolences to the child's family and said that this case is a great loss and an alarming signal. As Gabunia noted, vaccination of young people is necessary to protect children.

"The death of a child is a great tragedy. I want to express my condolences to the family. This is a great loss and another alarming signal that, especially with young people and vulnerable part of the citizens whose health may not be strong enough to cope with the very serious, damaging effects of the virus, great caution should be exercised. In these cases, the condition of infants was aggravated by pre-existing, concomitant diseases, although, of course, it is important to protect children as much as possible. Children can be protected by vaccinating their environment. If the child is sick, it is necessary to see a doctor very quickly. Our protocol stipulates that a child under the age of one, in any case, no matter how mild the condition, should definitely see a family doctor, a pediatrician, who will assess the severity of his condition. The sooner problems are identified, the better our chances of avoiding fatal outcomes," said Tamar Gabunia.

Two infants have been infected with the coronavirus in the last six days. A 1-month-old and then a 4-month-old baby died at Tsitsishvili's clinic.
