The staff of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in November of 2021, as a result of operative-investigative measures carried out throughout Georgia, revealed 22 cases of storage-shipment-sale of a large number of excisable goods subject to marking without excise stamp. Twenty-six people were charged as defendants.

According to the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance, during the investigation, a total of 89,033 boxes of excise-free cigarettes intended for sale, with a total market value of more than GEL 400,000, were seized from the persons exposed in the crime.

The investigation has been launched under the 2nd and 3rd parts of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment for a term of 6 to 8 years.
