According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Border Police officers, as a result of an operation carried out on the border section of the Akhaltsikhe Division "Charali," detained one citizen of the Republic of Ghana and one citizen of the Republic of the Congo for an attempt to cross the state border of Georgia illegally.
The crime committed by the detainees is punishable by 4 to 5 years in prison.
"The investigation has established that the accused, bypassing the border checkpoint, were trying to cross the Georgian state border illegally from Georgia to the Republic of Turkey.
The investigation is underway under Article 19-344, Part 2, Subparagraph" a "of the Criminal Code of Georgia," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
