State Security Service: Five citizens joined a terrorist organization

Employees of the Counter-Terrorism Center of the State Security Service, in cooperation with the relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of special events held in the Kakheti region, based on the court decision, detained five Georgian citizens.

According to the State Security Service, the investigation established that five citizens of Georgia joined the ranks of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" and planned to go to a terrorist camp in Syria. As a token of allegiance to the current leader of the terrorist organization "Islamic State," they sworn in allegiance, and a video of the oath was released to individuals linked to the terrorists.

According to the agency, the group members openly expressed their support for the terrorist organization and systematically demonstrated terrorist symbols while walking in the streets.

"As part of the investigation, the leader of a support group of the terrorist organization was identified, who openly stated that he was a representative of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" and the Emir of Georgia. It was with his help that the individuals mentioned above joined the ranks of the terrorist organization. They periodically held conspiratorial meetings to discuss current developments in Syria-Iraq and plans for Georgia. Relevant investigative and operative measures, including covert investigative actions, were carried out as soon as the investigation was launched," said the statement.
