"Police arrested two people in Tbilisi on charges of large-scale group fraud," the Ministry of Internal Affairs spreads information.
"The officers of Vake-Saburtalo Main Division as a result of operative-investigative actions based on a judge's ruling arrested two persons on charges of a large amount of fraud committed by the group carried out by prior agreement, Z.Ch., born in 1992, who has been exposed to a similar fact several times in the past and N.J., born in 1967, convicted of past fraud.
The investigation revealed that the defendants promised the citizens a visa to travel to the United States in exchange for payment of various sums. They took money from citizens and then cut ties with them. Z.Ch and N.J. in total, fraudulently embezzled about GEL 145,000," the statement said.
The investigation was launched under Article 180, Part 2, Subparagraphs "a" and Part 3, Subparagraph "b" of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which stipulates a large amount of fraud committed by the group by prior agreement.
The offense carries a maximum sentence of 6 to 9 years in prison.
