Power imports to Georgia increased by 7.8% in 2019 compared to 2018, as it exceeded the export rate by 6.7 times, the annual report of the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission of Georgia (GNERC) for 2019 reads.

Following the report, in 2019, 68% of electricity imports to Georgia came from Turkey, and 32% from Russia.

As for the export data, Georgia exported the bulk of the electricity (46%) to Turkey during the reporting period. A total of 24% was exported to Russia from Georgia, 24% to Armenia, and 5% to Azerbaijan.

In the past, the bulk of electricity was imported to Georgia from Azerbaijan (61% in 2017 and 82% in 2018).

Under the GNERC, the volume of electricity imports equaled 1.627 million kWh in 2019, is 7.8% more than in 2018, and 8.7% more than in 2017.

In 2019, 243 million kWh of electricity was exported from Georgia. The rate is 2.5 times less than in 2018.

Both in the reporting and previous years, electricity from Georgia was mainly exported to Turkey.

Following the GNERC, electricity production decreased by 2.6% compared to 2018 in 2019.

Under the 2010-2019 data, electricity production increases by an average of 3.6% annually, and domestic consumption increases by 4.4%.
