At what cost has Georgian economy decreased?

The National Statistics Office of Georgia has published the May 2020 economic growth data.

Following the document, Georgia's economy has dropped by 13.5% compared to the same period of 2019.

Reports say that in January – May 2020, Georgia's economy dropped by 5.4%.

Statistics Office Director Gogita Todradze says that the VAT-payer enterprises' reduction (by 22.2%) harmed the growth.

He says the dropped export rate also negatively influenced the economy.

In his words, the construction field observed a decrease, while the construction materials' imports dropped by 39%.

The decrease in trade mainly links the reduction with vehicles, as the re-export rate decreased by 77% in May.

"The tourism sector has observed a severed drop as the number of visits decreased by about 94%,'' Todradze reported.
