The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, amended the order of February 21, 2007, on the measures related to the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project. According to Report.ge, Azerbaijani media writes about it.
According to the report, the chairmanship of BTK's Marabda-Akhalkalaki section for financing the reconstruction and restoration of the Akhalkalaki section to the Turkish border and other organizational measures headed by the chairperson of the Azerbaijan Railways (AZD) got transferred to the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan.
The chairperson of the AZD will remain a member of the commission.
Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) is a new railway route that connects Europe and Asia via Georgia. Its construction began in 2008 and was completed in 2017. The railway has been operating in test mode since 2017. The rail route for freight transit has been active since 2018.
According to the Minister of Economy, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is the shortest route between China and Europe, which reduces the freight and increases Georgia's competitiveness in this corridor.
