According to David Zalkaliani, recently, international partners have been actively calling for Georgia to participate in the 3 + 3 format, although the Georgian diplomat can hardly imagine talking to a country that occupies 20% of the territory of Georgia.
The 3 + 3 format envisages the involvement of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, as well as Turkey, Iran, and Russia and peace initiatives.
During his visit to Turkey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia clarified the position of Tbilisi on this initiative.
"Of course, we are grateful to Turkey for ensuring lasting peace in the region. The region's stability largely depends on the projects that will be implemented and will be economically acceptable to all countries, but this cooperation must be based on internationally recognized legal norms and respect for principles. First of all, I mean territorial integrity and sovereignty. It is hard to imagine talking to a country that occupies 20% of our territories and, unfortunately, continues to carry out illegal and unlawful actions in the occupied territories. I will explain this very clearly to my Turkish counterpart. I hope they will understand this," Zalkaliani said, adding that first of all, ties between the three countries of the South Caucasus should be strengthened in various fields.
