''Construction amounted for nine percent of Georgia's Gross Domestic Product before the pandemic and crisis emerged,'' Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said when presenting a program to support the construction sector.
He said the construction was the most rapidly growing sector before the coronavirus-caused crisis, with about 120,000 people direct and the same number of indirect employees.
"Building materials, furniture, repairs, machinery commerce, and others are associated with this sector. Naturally, it does not mean assistance only to construction and development companies but our citizens,'' Gakharia remarked.
"We must do everything to continue the construction of the country. Construction projects must not stop for a second. Despite the pandemic, none of the system infrastructure projects has stopped,'' PM Gakharia said.
