Completing the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project will significantly reduce the time required for cargo transportation between Asia and Europe, allowing Georgia to attract additional cargo; the program of the new government of Georgia for 2021-2024 mentions the information.
The document emphasizes that Georgia will continue to integrate into international transport systems and deepen regional cooperation to increase the transit corridor's competitiveness.
"We plan to work with partner countries for the digital formation of the transit corridor, which will increase the efficiency and sustainability of cargo transportation through Georgia," reads the government program compiled by Irakli Gharibashvili, which the Parliament should support.
The Parliament of Georgia will discuss the government program's issue and the declaration of confidence to the Cabinet of Ministers, submitted by the candidate for the prime minister's post.
Irakli Gharibashvili made only a few changes; Juansher Burchuladze, the Deputy Minister of Defense, has been nominated for the Minister of Defense position, while Maia Tskitishvili will be replaced by her first deputy Irakli Karseladze as the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure. The government program for 2021-2024, entitled "Building a European state," will be discussed in the Parliament today. The document states that by 2024 the country should become a full member of the European Union and NATO; the document also focuses on occupation, economic challenges, COVID pandemic, and human rights.
The PM candidate and the ministerial candidates will first be heard in a parliamentary majority format, and then they will meet with the opposition. After that, the Parliament will decide on the declaration of confidence in the plenary session format. At least 76 votes are needed to approve the new government.
