The Georgian government plans to spend 60 mln GEL for subsidization of the vintage in Georgia in 2020.
The government is still developing the subsidy structure.
Head of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla supposes that the subsidy may apply to only the Rkatsiteli grape.
''Red wine tops in the exported volume and no interference will be needed in this respect allegedly. We hope that Saperavi sales will be high in the free market. No rare species of grape that are popular and highly demanded will be subsidized, but Rkatsiteli will need the subsidy,'' Mekhuzla said, adding that the government wine factory Akura will operate like it did last year.
Akura will receive the production in case of the surplus in the grape harvest.
Georgia expects to harvest about 300,000 tonnes of grape in this season.
The government says it will do everything to help winemakers. They will enjoy a whole set of allowances and facilitation.
